I can’t find anything about this Arno Schmieder. He looks like to have published only this book:
Arno Schmieder: Zahl Und Zeit; Der Kampf Zwischen Dem Vier- Und Funfdimensionalen Weltgefuhl: Deutschlands Schicksal. Zugleich Deutung Und Berwindung Von Spenglers Werk: Der Untergang des Abendlandes
According to H. Stuart Hughes it should be the best published biography of Oswald Spenger. So far I know that Albers worked at Beck Verglag.
Anybody has August Albers, “Oswald Spengler,” Preussische Jahrbiicher, CLXXXXII, 2. Heft, May 1923, pp. 129 – 137?
The first book written by Oswald Spengler was “Der metaphysische Grundgedanke der Heraklitischen Philosophie” about metaphysical principles of Heraclitus’ philosophy, his Phd thesis, published in 1904.
14 years later, after the end of first world war, he did publish his famous masterwork, Der Untergang des Abendlandes: Umrisse einer Morphologie der Weltgeschichte” (first volume, in English: The Decline of the West”). It was one of the less read bestseller of all times.
4 years later he published the second volume of the Decline, another bestseller but nearly nobody did read it.
I think that Spengler’s Decline of the West was one of the first philosophy books used to furnish desks and home libraries.
After the Decline he didn’t publish nothing philosophically interesting, well “Man and Technics: A Contribuotionto a Philosophy of Life” is worth reading, but it’s more anthropology than philosophy of history.
The other 2 small publications to remember are the 2 political books: “Prussianism and Socialism” (1920) and “The Hour of Decision” (1933).
